Ice Climbing Festival (Ouray, Colorado)

Decided to go out to Ouray, Colorado with some friends to the Ice Climbing Festival last weekend. Just have to ask one question...

HOW BADASS IS THAT?! Well I think it is, my mom doesn't think so though (rightfully so).

It was my first time ever being on ice and I must say I am hooked. It is a much different experience than rock
climbing. There are many more danger factors when ice climbing, like falling ice, hitting yourself with your axe/crampons, and worst of all tearing your pants (kidding). I must say though that I get way more freaked out when up on the ice than on rock. It cycles through my mind that I am literally holding on by 6 tiny points (2 axe points and 4 crampon points).

We watched parts of the competition and it was really amazing what these people can do with axes and crampons especially when transitioning to dry rock from ice.

Now the BEST part besides being on the ice...

First time on ice.
Scared out of my mind.
FREE BEER!!!!

So, the first night there the Ouray Brewery had a little celebration for the festivities.  They provided free beer and appetizers for the night.  I would like to personally thank them for dealing with so many drunken idiots.  The people at Ouray Brewery are awesome!

Second and third nights we payed $15 each for dinner set up by the Fire Department of Ouray including, you guessed it, all you can drink BEER!

In my opinion, it was one of the better trips I have taken in my life and am looking forward to going to it every year until I die.  Lots of good people, good food, and great ice!

Well now I have to go buy new ice gear, YAY I am poor again!
